This project develops the work of Tiny Translocation Agency with Glasgow based design agency Lateral North. Shortlisted for the FilmG awards this film is set within Arkaig Community Forest. Màthair Giuthais, translated as ‘Mother Pine’ explores the codependent relationship between tiny things (insects), future Gaelic generations (children), and ecological systems (the forest). Mother Pine, a mythical presence throughout the film, communicates with a group of ‘tiny agents’ who are investigating invertebrates in the forest. They write her a letter, expressing their findings and hopes for the future, and she responds through a lullaby.
This project has been developed and storyboarded by Freya MacLeod, Designer, and filmed by Simon Forsythe, Creative Content Lead from Lateral North. The lullaby has been generously composed and beautifully performed by Rachel Walker for the film as the response from Màthair Giuthais.
The characters are played by the nature group from Bun-Sgoil Ghàidhlig Loch Abar led by Lauren Byrne, Development Officer, Comunn na Gàidhlig and the project has been kindly supported by Woodland Trust Scotland and Arkaig Community Forest.
